Demonstrations, Annapolis Conference
©Asher Intrater November 26, 2007
Monday evening, there is a scheduled public demonstration against Messianic Jews in the city of Arad organized by an influential ultra Orthodox sect. Pray for God to turn what was meant for evil to good and for an opportunity for the witness of the Holy Spirit (Genesis 50:20, Luke 21:12-13).
Tuesday starts an overnight prayer retreat for all the messianic pastors in Jerusalem. Pray for unity and anointing of the Holy Spirit in a fulfillment of Acts 1:14.
Wednesday morning significant members of our ministry team are leaving on a special trip to eastern Turkey for sharing their faith, encouraging the believers in that area, and building the spiritual highway from Assyria to Egypt. Pray for this team (led by "NM") of Israeli Hebrew-speaking men to begin to fulfill the vision of Isaiah 19:23-25.
Wednesday and Thursday evenings we are sharing at a conference in Jerusalem with Church leaders from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and across Latin America. Pray for a fulfillment of Isaiah 2:2-3.
Friday morning we are sponsoring a deliverance and healing seminar led by the Mitz family, called Ancient Paths. Pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit to heal the broken hearted and proclaim deliverance (Isaiah 61:1-4).
Saturday afternoon is our weekly congregational meeting (Ahavat Yeshua): pray together with us as we pursue the vision of Acts 2 in restoring the early community of faith, in the power of the Holy Spirit, an apostolic vision, in the context of local Jewish-Israeli culture.
Annapolis Conference
As we are all praying for God's will to be done, and for what is not His will NOT to be done, here are a few side comments following last week's article:
- In a recent Dahaf Institute poll, in answer to the following questions, Israelis responded:
Do you support the Annapolis Conference? 69% - yes; 27% - no; 4% - no response.
Do you think it will help bring peace? 71% - no; 22- yes; 7% - no response.
Do you trust the USA to be a fair mediator? 56% - yes; 41% - no; 3% -no response. Those statistics show something about the Israeli personality.
- In last week's Torah portion, the most famous rabbinic commentator (Rashi), which would have been read by most Orthodox Jews, said that when Jacob returned to the Land to meet Esau (Genesis 32), he was ready for 3 possibilities: giving gifts, praying, or making war. Those options are still before us today.
- This week November 29 marks the 60th anniversary of a very famous event in modern Israeli history: the vote at the U.N. (1947) approving the partition of Palestine, and thereby acknowledging the founding of the Jewish state. This "partition" vote was seen as a great victory for the people of Israel at the time.
- This week, also, November 19 marked the 30th anniversary of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's famous speech before the Israeli Knesset (1977) offering peace between Israel and Egypt. His visit was considered by most Israelis as a great moment; it led to the Camp David Peace accords for which he and Israeli Prime minister Menachem Begin received the Nobel Peace Prize; and eventually led to Sadat being murdered by a Muslim terrorist in his own land.
- Since there is no agreement for terms of peace between Israel and the Palestinians, and no coalition to support it, at this point any high expectations from this particular conference would not seem to be much more than "vain imaginations" (II Corinthians 10:3-5; Psalm 2:1-2).
- Many Israelis are much more concerned right now about the continuing teachers' strike in Israel, that has been doing untold damage to the Israeli teen population, both academically and morally. Many feel that the government leaders would do better at giving their attention back home, than engaging in a very expensive "photo op."
- Most Israeli political commentators see this conference not so much as a peace effort between Israel and the Palestinians, but as an effort by the Bush administration to gather a coalition of "moderate" Arab national leaders to stand together with them against Iran's nuclear weapon plan, and against radical Islamic extremists that threaten their own regimes as well. Ahmadinajad is reported as having made angry phone calls, both to Saudi Arabia and to Syria, for their cooperation with this conference.
Please PRAY for our ongoing ministry in Israel of indigenous evangelism, planting Messianic congregations, the discipleship training center, prophetic praise and prayer watches in Hebrew, and financial aid for the needy.
