As in the Days
By Asher Intrater
When Yeshua taught about His Second Coming, He compared it to the flood of Noah and the destruction of Sodom. Those were real historical events, yet they also serve as patterns for what will come upon the earth in the end times.
In both of those events, there was total destruction as a punishment from God. In both the people were totally caught by surprise. In the case of Noah, the destruction was worldwide by flood of water. In the case of Lot, the destruction was by fire in the area of Sodom. We can conclude from this that at the Second Coming, the punishment will be worldwide not local, but of fire not of water (II Peter 3).
If the punishment will be similar, we can imagine the sin will be similar. The circumstances that prevailed in those days will prevail once again in the end times. In the case of Noah, the most prevalent sin was violence.
(Interestingly, the word for "violence" in this text is "hamas," which sounds in Hebrew the same as the name of the terrorist organization, Hamas, even though there is no etymological connection.) Is it possible to think of a world overrun with crime, financial corruption and terrorist violence?
This week as I write this article, citizens were bombed with chemical weapons in Syria, an unmanned surveillance aircraft (drone) from Hizbollah was shot down by the Israeli air force as it approached the Haifa harbor, and missiles were shot into southern Israel from the Egyptian border. A similar worldwide violence as in the days of Noah could be fulfilled by the spread of Islamic Jihad in our day.
In Sodom, the sin was homosexuality. The kind of homosexuality then was aggressive and violent (Genesis 19:4-11). France passed a same sex marriage law this week. There is an aggressive movement pushing homosexual values across the Western world. Anyone who speaks against them is attacked. The Messianic kibbutz in Israel, Yad Hashmonah, was sued this year for not allowing a lesbian marriage at their synagogue site.
Even believers who are not engaged in this kind of sin will be affected by it. Lot was a righteous man, but he was unable to do any righteous works. All his spiritual effort was spent in simply surviving and overcoming the torment of his soul (II Peter 2:7). Let us not be paralyzed by spirits of sexual perversion in the end times, but overcome and go on to victory in faith.
As in the days of Noah and Lot, the dominating sins of our generation are Jihad and Homosexuality.
New Treasury Secretary Yair Lapid gave his first speech in the Knesset, strongly confronting Ultra-orthodox religious misuse of government funds. (It reminded me a bit of Yeshua's rebuke of the Pharisees 2,000 years ago – Matthew 23.)
Rome and Jerusalem
President Peres is scheduled to fly to Rome this week for a personal meeting with Pope Francis. There is much in the Bible about Rome and Jerusalem. The book of Acts starts in Jerusalem and ends in Rome. The Jewish Priests condemned Yeshua and the Roman Procurator crucified Him. Let us pray for improved relationships and for God's will to be done between Israel and the Catholic Church.
We joined congregation Tiferet Yeshua in the year 2000, while it was still in the "diaper" stage. We met in the small blue-carpeted basement of the Sorkoram's home in Ramat Hasharon. Ari and Shira led the congregation as the founding apostolic pastors; Eddie and Jackie Santoro served as the young-adults' pastors.
In 2004 we left to start the ministry team at Revive Israel. In 2006 the team planted congregation Ahavat Yeshua in Jerusalem, pastored by the Santoros. Ahavat Yeshua and Tiferet Yeshua have become sister congregations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. We joined together for a fun picnic and barbecue last month for Israeli Independence Day.
The Lord has raised up new leadership at Revive and Ahavat which has allowed us to join back in the work at Tiferet as well. Ari and Shira have asked us to take overall leadership of the congregation, training the younger generation for the years ahead.
This month we will ordain as well five eldership couples: Cantor, Cohen, Afriat, Ratz, and Rosenberg; with Ron Cantor leading the elders' team. Our commitment is to do all by God's grace to see the congregation grow and prosper; and that Ari and Shira will be honored as the founding fathers.
For this new period, Eddie Santoro sensed a prophetic word derived from Haggai 2:9 that "The glory of the latter house will be greater than the glory of the former." We believe that Tiferet Yeshua will grow far beyond what it has been in previous years and fulfill a glorious destiny in the Tel Aviv area.
(Note: Ari will be "passing on the baton" to Asher during a special service next week. Please pray for God's grace for Asher to oversee this dynamic "three-fold" cord of Revive Israel, Ahavat Yeshua and Tiferet Yeshua.)
Please set your calendars for the all-night prayer and fasting on the eve of Pentecost (Shavuot). Congregations and prayer houses within Israel will be joining with us with one heart in one accord (Acts 1:14) for 12 hours from 10:00 PM to 10:00 AM (Israeli time), May 14-15. We will be interceding for the fulfillment of the promise for a worldwide revival in the end times (Acts 2:17). Prayer groups from around the world will be joining us on internet and live stream. Praise sets and prayer topics, as well as internet connections, will be sent in the coming weeks. Please join us for this "future-history making" event.
