Yonat Nobel Prize

This week in Sweden, Professor Ada Yonat received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her pioneering studies in the field of protein-producing ribosomes. Yonat is the ninth Israeli to receive a Nobel Prize.

Arson in Samarian Mosque

Friday morning leaders of the village Kfar Yasuf in northern Samaria reported to Israeli authorities that a fire had been set in their mosque. Evidence points to this as a case of arson by radical Jewish religious elements. Israeli politicians and rabbis immediately denounced the arson in harsh terms. Israeli security forces are searching for the suspects.

Rescue of Shipwreck Victims

On Saturday morning at 10 AM Israeli air force received an emergency call from a Cyprus freight ship 30 miles from the Lebanon shore. Israel sent out their commando rescue team, unit 669 including speed boats and helicopters. A British and Cypriot team pulled out the first victim. The weather was stormy. Waves of 3-4 meters raged. Israeli commando's descended on cables from the helicopters and managed to rescue another 4 victims. 12 other crew members are reported as still missing.

Obama on Justified War

During his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace prize, President Obama made the following remarks:

The concept of a "just war" emerged, suggesting that war is justified only when it meets certain preconditions: if it is waged as a last resort or in self-defense; if the force used is proportional; and if, whenever possible, civilians are spared from violence.

Terrorism has long been a tactic, but modern technology allows a few small men with outsized rage to murder innocents on a horrific scale.

Make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world. A nonviolent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies. Negotiations cannot convince al-Qaida's leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force is sometimes necessary is not a call to cynicism – it is a recognition of history, the imperfections of man and the limits of reason.

Israelis on "Mission"

Please pray for several key ministry outreaches:

  • A number of our community have traveled to Africa this week on an outreach led by Ron Cantor (with help by Eli Birnbaum and Freddy Intrater) to share the gospel with local Nigerians, particularly in the area of Gombi. They report 25,000 (!) at their first meeting.
  • Another outreach team led by Stuart and Chantelle Winograd and Gilad and Miriam Yosian are traveling in India this week, particularly in the Goa area, sharing with local Indians and with Israeli young adults, spiritual seekers, who are vacationing there.
  • Others of our staff, including Shani, Sahar, Idan and Aure, are serving in the Galilee at the national Israeli teen conference, Katsir, led by Eitan Shishkoff. This is one of the most significant discipleship and revival opportunities of the year.

New Baptisms

Pray as well for "I" and "L", two precious Israeli men who went through the waters of immersion for salvation in Yeshua this week. The service was led by Eddie Santoro. Both men are native Israelis from traditional Jewish religious background.
